Oh, come, little children, oh, come, one and all,
To Bethlehem’s stable, in Bethlehem’s stall.
And see with rejoicing this glorious sight,
Our Father in heaven has sent us this night.Oh, see in the manger, in hallowèd light
A star throws its beam on this holiest sight.
In clean swaddling clothes lies the heavenly Child,
More lovely than angels, this Baby so mild.Oh, there lies the Christ Child, on hay and on straw;
The shepherds are kneeling before Him with awe.
And Mary and Joseph smile on Him with love,
While angels are singing sweet songs from above.
He came as a Baby, a Holy Child, and He cherishes the little children with a Father's love.
During His ministry on earth, children flocked to Jesus, and He loved them dearly -
Then they brought little children to Him, that He might touch them; but the disciples rebuked those who brought them. But when Jesus saw it, He was greatly displeased and said to them, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of God. Assuredly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it.” (Mark 10: 13-15, NKJV)
Having come as a Child, Jesus knows the wonder and the innocent joy that children have. He knows it, and He offers it to His children by giving Himself to us. He gives us the Perfect Father who we may trust with all our hearts, who will protect and discipline with love and tenderness, who will ease our hurts and fears, and who desires us to curl up on His lap and rest in His love.
How wonderful it is to go through life knowing that, although I have my "chores" around the household, my Savior bears the burdens of providing and caring for me. He did not create my shoulders to bear those loads, and so I can give them to Him. Because He is Faithful and True, He will always give me what I need for each day, each hour and each minute that I am here on earth.
He knows what I need, because He needed it too.
Frail children of dust, and feeble as frail,
In Thee do we trust, nor find Thee to fail;
Thy mercies how tender, how firm to the end,
Our Maker, Defender, Redeemer, and Friend. ("O Worship the King")
