For unto us a Child is born,
Unto us a Son is given;
And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called
Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Of the increase of His government and peace
There will be no end,
Upon the throne of David and over His kingdom,
To order it and establish it with judgment and justice
From that time forward, even forever.
The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this. (Isaiah 9: 6-7, NKJV)
In the Christ, we have been given the Perfect Ruler. He is always just and fair. When He returns, He will take up the Throne of David, which is His rightful inheritance.
And yet, He is not just a Ruler...
Consider the Names - or Titles - He is called by:
- "Wonderful" - as in full of wonder, astonishing, astounding, and amazing. Jesus performed miracles which gave proof to His claim that He is the Messiah and Savior. His whole life is the apex of perfection, love and grace combined with justice, strength and perseverance. No one has ever matched Him.
- "Counselor" - He is our Advocate and our Intercessor. He guides us, He leads us, and He comforts us. He showers His love upon us with limitless kindness and goodness.
- "Mighty God" - He is God Incarnate. He is the Mighty Warrior, fighting on behalf of His children. He is El Shaddai, the Almighty One, the Irresistable. Nothing and no one can overpower Him, for He holds all power in His hands.
- "Everlasting Father" - He is from everlasting to everlasting; He is eternal. Your Heavenly Father will never die, and will never leave you. He is your Father, perfect, holy, and loving. He knows your needs perfectly and is able to meet each and every one without effort or strain. He watches over and protects His children, and disciplines and cherishes them in love and concern.
- "Prince of Peace" - He is the Prince, and is now Crowned King, of the Universe. And yet, His rule is perfect and He reigns in peace. To all who acknowledge His Lordship, He gives His peace so His children may live without fear and in joyful confidence in the King of Kings. He gives His children abundant and holy life, and promises them an eternity with Him.
He will govern in peace, justice and righteousness for all eternity, and He will Judge rightly and perfectly.
And how will all this come about? "The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this."
God Himself will do all this. It will not depend on human effort, it will not rely on human will: God has purposed it, and God will accomplish it. His will cannot be subverted and His will cannot be resisted.
O worship the King, all glorious above,
O gratefully sing His power and His love;
Our Shield and Defender, the Ancient of Days,
Pavilioned in splendor, and girded with praise.O tell of His might, O sing of His grace,
Whose robe is the light, Whose canopy space,
His chariots of wrath the deep thunderclouds form,
And dark is His path on the wings of the storm.
Father, I thank You and praise You for Your Son whom You have given us, to rule and love and guide us with perfect grace and truth.
Don't forget that Adam is promoting and hosting the Carnival of Christmas. Make sure you have something ready to submit so that he has a glorious tribute to this blessed season!
