Damn it. He's done it again. He's reached in, gotten a good grip, and ripped out my heart. Again!
Varifrank writes Robert The Counter, which is all about how one man, one person, can make a difference. No matter how big or how small an influence, you may have, you do have an influence on people. You matter. Don't let anyone tell you differently.
Varifrank concludes with
One man does make a difference. You make a difference with your lives and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. There is a simple majesty to be found in every day life and you are a part of it whether you believe it or not.
Like the man said, read the whole thing.
And, of course, this puts me in mind of the One Man who made the ultimate difference. He came because He loves each and every one of us, even our sin-scarred ugliness. He came because He loves us just as we are, and yet He loves us too much to let us remain as we are.
No one would ever die in the place of a terrible, evil person. Perhaps, if the person were truly great and good, it may be possible that someone might be found who would willingly die in their place.
But you know what God did? When we were still angry with Him and fighting against Him, He decided to show how very much He loves us. While we still hated Him, Christ came and died for us. At exactly the right time, and in exactly the right place, Jesus sacrificed Himself to pay for all our wrongdoings, and to show us how much He loves us. (Romans 5:6-8, my paraphrase)
And so,
And you, who once were alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled in the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight (Colossians 1:21, 22)
One Man made a difference. And how much more of a difference can each one of us make, when we allow His Spirit to have His way in our lives, and do His work in this world?
