Ahem. Pardon my language, but this is just too bizarre!
My Dread Lord, Emperor Misha I, informs me that a Texas Marine Told He's No Resident, Must Pay Higher Tuition.
The FoxNews report is brief (and I hope they do a follow up...), reading in part:
A decorated Marine (search) enrolling in college was shocked to learn his Texas driver's license, car registration and bank records weren't enough to get the lower resident tuition rates.Carl Basham (search) said officials at Austin Community College recently told him that he lost his Texas resident's status because of the years he spent out of state on two tours of duty in Iraq.
As Misha says:
Nice.Bureaucrat. Rope. Tree.
Some assembly required.
Seconded!
UPDATE: Well, Misha has some new information which may put a completely different light on this. Apparently the Marine wasn't a resident of Texas:
...This is an individual situation involving one person who lived in another state before entering the military and who listed the other state – not Texas – as his permanent address in military records.
My bad. I apologize to the Austin Community College for not checking into the facts carefully myself.
He he I got all puuuffy and snuufy when I read the first sentences...but the update calmed me down...I've done that before...posted things without really waiting for verification.
Happens to all of us. either way I hope this Marine can get some benefits for his education. No matter where he lives, that is owed to him.

Well, _I've_ certainly NEVER posted ANYTHING without thoroughly checkiing each and every single detail (including spelllinng :-)) down to the last teen-einsiest, microscopic detail. No, not _I_!!!! Ever. At all.
Because I'm perfect, of course.
Well, except for a tendency to exaggerate a wee tad from time to time... But just the wee-est of tads, don't you know?
*LOL*

LOL, David, you are too funny! Hey, luv... My house is actually getting *gasp* organized, and it looks like it might even be presentable by the end of the month.
And, so, thus, therefore... I will *finally* be able to "do the rounds," so to speak, and comment regularly on your blog as well.
You and Raven (Hi, Raven!) have been big supporters, and I love you both!
Take care, and as soon as I can wade out of this mess, I'll be able to return the love!
