This idiot, Tom Toles, at - oh, why the heck am I not surprised? - the Washington Post has the gall to publish this pathetic attempt at humorous cartoon commentary:
What a cretin! I wonder if he has any family or close friends who have stepped forward and served this country honorably. I wonder if he even talked to any of the heroes who have lost limbs in this - or any other - war. I wonder - oh, yeah, I certainly dare to question! - whether this... putz! ... is truly patriotic.
The Joint Chiefs of Staff have issued a succinct statement decrying this heinous, trite, and flip "cartoon (.pdf file) -
While you or some of your readers may not agree with the war or its conduct, we believe you owe the men and women and their families who so selflessly serve our country the decency to not make light of their tremendous physical sacrifices.
"Decency."
Oh, I'm so sorry - I don't see that word in the Liberal Dictionary!
(With thanks for the pointer to Ace - well, Harry Callahan - and My Dread Lord, Emperor Misha I)
The really sad thing? This is so very much the norm for a certain segment of our population that I am not even shocked. Revolted, yes, but surprised? Shocked?
*sigh*
O woe to him who calls evil good and good evil!
There is no word in my vocabulary to describe how despicable these folks (the "cartoonist" and those who published his filth instead of firing his ass... with a big boot where it might do him some good.

The cartoon was disturbing on many levels. I am the daughter of a WWII combat Marine who took us to the VA hospital every weekend for years and we met a vet who had lost both arms and legs when he tried to toss a grenade back after it had landed in his foxhole. This brave man was an inspiration to every person that met him. After 40 years, I have never forgot him or his sacrifice. Shame on the cartoonist and the newspaper!
