Not only did I do the Mom-thing (sort of) with the daughter's homework tonight, but today I cleaned the kitchen and milled some whole wheat flour.
Now why, you ask, would I need fresh whole-what (EDIT: Um, y'all knew I meant "whEat," right?) flour?!
Well, to bake these, of course! Mmmm, fresh bread - there's nothing like it!
Next thing you know, I'll be subscribing to Mother Earth News, wearing beads and a "peace" sign, and voting Dhimmicrat... Oh, Lord - somebody SAVE me!!!
UPDATE: See? I TOLD you it was yummy!
Oh NOOOO
We are praying for you. Here is a pic

And I do have several pairs of Berkies. hehe. They are great at work.

Oh, YUM!
I've gotten lazy in the last few years and only make bread in my bread machine any more, but there is nothing like a fresh-baked loaf of bread. From freshly-ground flour? Haven't done that yet. Looks/sounds delish, though.

David, I *have* a bread machine, but I don't really use it. I did pull it out a couple months ago and made a few loaves, but the final product just cannot compare with doing it all by hand.
Mom let me have her grain mill last fall, and I finally found some unground wheat berries to grind. The flour is a LOT more moist than packaged flour, so I had to add about another 1 1/2 cups of the flour. Next time, I'll probably reduce the water in the recipe.
This dough also goes through THREE rises - the last one in the loaf pans - and I knead it for twenty minutes (my weekly exercise for my upper body strength, LOL). Between the finely ground flour and the rises, this bakes up into an incredibly tender and soft bread, although I'd like to figure out how to make it a little more flavorful (sourdough? a little rye flour? I dunno...) Also, I have the comfort of knowing exactly what's going into this bread... and the Darling Munchkin loves it!
I'm probably going to go to King Arthur Flour and Rob's Red Mill to see if I can order more organic whole wheat for grinding, and I need to find a very good ALL whole grain bread book - no more white flour in my bread!

So, just when will you be leaving Gretna and moving to Floyd?

Kidding, of course. As the title of my blog indicates I love to cook. Especially bake. I love to make cookies and cakes and breads. But I seldom eat breads. Weird, huh? I even have my very own KitchenAide stand mixer, 10 speeds, arrghh. Powerful....Arghhh.
I sometimes make my "best bagels a gentile can produce" recipe for special requests. I've never milled my own four though. But I bet my 1970's vintage Vitamixer would do it. It does make great corn meal from raw popcorn.

Oh, R'Cat, I know my bread machine bread isn't as good as my hand thrown/kneaded/backed bread, but...
You have picked up on my recipes being Easy, Fast and, well, Easy, right?
;-)
Yeh, I'm a lazy cook.

No, you're an efficient cook! LOL
Well, the bread recipe *IS* easy... Not fast, but EASY. But that's OK for me. Since I'm a Wife and Mom in the home, I *do* have the time, and I find it gives me a great deal of pleasure.
Especially since the Darling Munchkin just LOVES that bread! I feel a very warm an strong sense of satisfaction --- my own little step towards an attempt at the Proverbs 31 woman.
Yikes! LOL
