God bless those who have served in the past and who are serving today: they've done an awesome job in hard circumstances. They stand between us and tyranny, they protect and defend this country, and they swear an oath to no man - only to the Constitution.
I do not have the words to express how much the courageous and honorable men and women in our military inspire me.
To each one of you, I offer my thanks and profound gratitude. You are truly heros!
UPDATE - My post last year is a bit more eloquent.... (AGAIN) and two from 2004, when I started (wow, 2 years?!)
I pledge to raise my child to show respect for veterans, policemen, firefighters, teachers - all the people who sacrifice so much to keep this country free.I pledge to pass on the story of our great country, and the courageous men and women who died to keep us free. I will tell her of the heroes of today who continue to raise the torch of liberty for the world to see.
I pledge to teach her the meaning of America: that we believe that people have the right to make their own decisions without a gun to their head, or the threat of torture. She will know that our country has a call to represent the highest and best virtues of freedom.
I pledge to train her to carry on our heritage of liberty, respect, pride, and service to country. I pledge to train her in citizenship so that she will become a strong, independent, and law-abiding citizen who will in turn pass on these values to her children.
Not bad... ;-)
Not bad, indeed. In fact, well said... and a very good thing that you HAVE said it and meant it.
Very well said. Thank you for the strength and purpose behind your sentiment; it is what all our serving military, veterans and those who have paid the ultimate price deserve: not just words of respect but faithfulness to what they have done and the liberties they have purchased with "blood and toil and sweat and tears."
