Southwest Airlines is a great company. I've only flown them a couple of times between Norfolk and Orlando, but the flights were fun and on time, and the staff was friendly and professional.
Now I hear (via the Puppy Blender) that they're promoting a Red Fridays campaign:
Southwest Airlines is taking patriotism to a new level. My favorite airline has stepped to the forefront of the Red Fridays campaign, which encourages Americans to wear red on Fridays in a show of support for our troops. This post on Southwest's blog [link added - ed.] explains why the company has embraced the Red Fridays idea as a voluntary way of showing support. A spokeswoman for Southwest told me that at the height of the current conflict, Southwest had 173 employees called to serve, 79 of who remain on military leave. So now when you see a Southwest employee wearing a red shirt, you'll know why.
I didn't know about the Red Fridays campaign which was, from the info on a quick Google search, started by wives of Canadian troops stationed in Afghanistan. Or was it started in America? Well, no matter... It is apparently spreading rapidly, which is wonderful!
Now, just so you know, I look terrible in red... But I'll be wearing it on Fridays. After all, with people like Harry Reid tearing defeat out of the jaws of victory, I think our troops would love to see how we truly support them.
How 'bout you?
Good reminder, Kat. For some reason your comment about Reid snatching defeat from the jaws of victory recalled to mind the Shakespearean line (Henry IV-Hotspur), "Out of this nettle, danger,we pluck this flower, safety."
Folks who desire safety but who are unwilling to pluck that delicate flower from the nettle wherein it grows seem tp make up the majority of the "peace at any price except a strong, vigorous defense" crowd... IOW, appeaseniks, Nevilles (as in Chamberlain--who horribly misused--abused!-- the line from Henry IV), crawfishers, etc.
Now we have a new name for such cretins: Nancy Reids. *heh*
*sigh* One problem with the Red Friday here at twc central: my last red shirt disappeared years ago (well, it had turned "hot orange" over the years from many washes, anyway :-)), so I'll need to find/make/buy something just for this...
Can do, though.
