Raven, my beloved and valiant blog-sister, has an excellent post up about the "Girls gone wild" phenomenon that everyone ought to read:
Is it pressure? Or free choice? I have three daughters of the age where it’s popular to do these things and they tell me of the pressure to “act out” (as they call it) and perform (again, their term) and do these things. When girls don’t become involved with this stuff, they are often ostracized and avoided. The party girls are popular, not the level headed, street smart girls who have some self respect. I think it is pressure that leads girls to make these poor choices.
And Raven has been-there, done-that; she knows whereof she speaks.
Moms and Dads, please give your daughters - and sons! - the firm foundation of love and discipline so that they will have the strength to refuse evil and choose the good. Train them up to treat themselves with respect and dignity, and to do the same to others. Each of us is created in the very image of God Himself, and for any of us to wallow and delight in such debauchery and hedonism is unspeakably disgusting. It cheapens and demeans us, and makes us no better than animals.
We are better than that.
Or, we should be.
Wow, thanks for the link to that post. I didn't think it met any standards of honor, LOL...
Peer pressure is what does it, too. Boyz are under even more pressure to pressure the girls...and then the cycle just keeps on spinning.
Sadly many people, grown ups, don't see anything really wrong or harmful with these things. People of our age, parents don't understand just HOW DIFFERENT sowing the oats is these days. Its far beyond the things we might have done as teens. Girls are indeed taken advantage of, exploited, used, abused and tossed aside like the can of beer that these boyz treasure more. It has to end.
