I started this top back in 2006, and it's ALL hand-pieced (hand sewn). It's a generous sized laptop right now, but I'm debating whether I want to add a border or two (yeah, I'd sew those on by hand as well...).
And then, of course, I've been told (and kinda reluctantly agree) that it would be criminal to do anything BUT hand-quilt the dang thing - remind me why I do these things to myself?!
But, I'm pretty proud of myself! Of course, now I need another project I can carry around and hand sew while traveling. I do need to complete a top from a kit by Judie Rothermel; I've got all the blocks done, I just need to sew in the cornerstone sashing, the setting triangles, and the borders... Yet, I've also wanted to do an apple core scrap quilt for ages - I'm just not so certain about handling the curved seams (although hand sewing curved seams is much easier than on the machine, or so I'm told).
Anyway, this quilt (the template is the "tumbler"), is obviously going to be special, which means that this is the last time the cats will be allowed on it...
... Well, at least for now!
Kat, that is awesome. Very well done and I am proud of you for sure. Doing stuff by hand gives us a new perspective on those before us who had no choices except maybe not doing it. When you go downstairs and stand in front our you long arm you will appreciate her just that much more. I am doing and having fun with mine.

Right, thats going to happen. Cats have the ability to sense what is valued most in the house and barf on it :-)

Oddly enough, the cats haven't yet barfed on a quilt, that I can think of... Carpets, clothes, linoleum, furniture - yes... But no quilts so far.
Of course, I have now jinxed myself, and every time a hairball comes up, it'll be on a quilt *sigh* [rolls eyes]
And RQ, thanks so much for the compliment - it means a lot, coming from you ;-) So... Should I add borders, or not?

Kat, I am thinking that traditionally there would be no borders, then again, if you want to increase the size and not go totally nuts I would add borders. I might add a border then put a layer or two of tumblers in, then another border. That would add lots of size and not so much work- hows that sound?

I'm thinking you're probably right, RQ - no borders would be traditional. I'm going to my guild meeting tonight, and I'll ask them what they think at show 'n' tell... Of course, now I *STILL* have the issue of handquilting it... *sigh*

THAT is just gorgeous!!! And the hand made part makes it priceless. Someday it'll be an heirloom...you should be so proud of your talent.
I can't wait for your quilt shop to open...(hint hint) I may be on of your best customers you know!!
