Yep. He did. He whacked Skye, just for videotaping an exchange of insults. Sky was not participating, she was only taping, and this cretin lashes out at her! Melanie Morgan has posted that the... male person... who attacked Skye has been identified as
The (alleged) Peace Slapper has been identified as John Meicht , a college professor who taught a course at Widener University last spring.
And here's the video of the, erm, "distinguished professor's" attack:
Class act, dude. Really... stylish. So tolerant, enlightened, loving and peaceful.
Not.
The swipe was obviously heinous, and quite likely criminal. But that little exchange that proceeded it was bafflingly juvenile. These are adults, well into middle age, with the potential to contrast value systems, premises, facts, and opinions. Instead? Someone calls someone else a "leftard" (a knee-jerk term that insults the developmentally-challenged more than it does a liberal), and the other person petulantly reaches for the "you don't know me" trope (way to communicate your credentials, dude). Obviously I've only seen a clip that lasted less than a minute, but if that sort of ignorance, masking itself as expression, reflects American political rallies, everyone would be better off staying home. That smug, smarmy tone, those parroted talking points... I'm convinced that most people - liberal, conservative, libertarian, and everything else - are not nearly interested in an exchange of ideas as much as posturing and gleeful baiting. That that group of people can freely bicker and spew inanities like children speaks well to the First Amendment, but it's not great testimony for a democracy ruled by reason.
