Don S. Davis, the actor who played General Hammond on Stargate SG-1 for seven years just died.
I always loved his character; Gen. Hammond was a tough guy who loved and took care of his people - and he had a subtle and precise sense of humor. Just as much as Richard Dean Anderson's character, Col. Jack O'Neill, shaped the series, so did Gen. Hammond - and Mr. Davis played him with great skill and grace.
My heart and prayers go out to his family.
Oh wow, I missed this story during the week.
Sad.
Of course, a true SciFi geek would know that Davis also played Dana Scully's father in several episodes of The X-Files ;)

And a REAL geek would also know that he played a cop-gone-bad in the Highlander episode "The Return of Amanda" ;-)
Unfortunately, I never watched all that much of the X-Files. I'm gonna have to rent the DVDs some day and watch.

Davis will go down as one of these actors you forget his name, but will remember his roles. THe sign of a good character actor.
Too bad for all of us who enjoy television.

Not only would they know that he played Scully's father in the 2nd season episode "Beyond The Sea," but they would also know that he was the stunt double for Dana Elcar (a.k.a. Pete) on "MacGyver" which is how he wound up landing the SG-1 gig via Richard Dean Anderson.
