I hear the grumble rumble of thunder closing in, and I see the bright flash of lightning....
That little dot, right in the center? Gretna? That's us... And those cells move from left to right with a small northward drift, normally.
I LOVE THUNDERSTORMS!
(Maybe I'll get some good pictures...)
We had a lovely--but all too brief!--storm roll through last night, that dropped the temperatures a notch and made for a very lovely show. About the only bummer was I was unprepared for it and tried to run out into the carport to cover up Eric's Father's Day present (a shiny new gas grill!), and ended up stepping on some glass and sustaining a deep cut on my poor pinky toe. But other than that, it was a very pleasant change of pace from the usual hot and dry Texas summer.
The one nasty thing about storms hitting our region during this time of the year is, the huge difference between the front that brings the rain and the heat rising from the ground tends to cause nasty tornadoes. There's a reason we're called Tornado Alley! And the Llano Uplift--of which my town is sitting on, and thusly my humble domicile is sitting on as well--is littered with granite domes that trap the heat in irregular "domes" that act much like huge stones in the path of an ocean wave. So storms come our way and it's KEERASSSSHHH!!
Suffice it to say, construction workers make brisk business out here after the storms come through...
