Have you ever wondered why Christians refer to this as "GOOD Friday"?
Isn't this the day that Jesus suffered and died? Isn't this the day when He was beaten and scorned? Isn't this the day that He was whipped until flesh was hanging of Him in bloody strips?
Isn't this the day He was forced to carry the instrument of torturous death upon His shoulders to the place He would die?
Isn't this the Day?
"This is My body, which is broken for you..."
"He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him."
"...who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God."
"...to give His life a ransom for many."
"But Christ came as High Priest of the good things to come, with the greater and more perfect tabernacle not made with hands, that is, not of this creation. Not with the blood of goats and calves, but with His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption. For if the blood of bulls and goats and the ashes of a heifer, sprinkling the unclean, sanctifies for the purifying of the flesh, how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? And for this reason He is the Mediator of the new covenant, by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions under the first covenant, that those who are called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance."
That's why we call it "GOOD Friday." We look at the Cross and see the terrifying price Jesus paid for our sin. We look on the Cross and see the filthiness and depths of our sin.
We look at the Cross and see the infinite love of God for His children, that He should send His willing Son to bear His Father's wrath against sin.
I look at the Cross, I remember Jesus suffering, and I see my sins against my holy and perfect Creator punished. I see my Savior, who paid the debt I could not pay.
Yes. It is, indeed,
GOOD FRIDAY!
