Quote of the Day: "Language must mirror reality."

My adult Bible study just began an overview of Ravi Zacharias' book, Cries of The Heart. Today's section has this quote:

Language and reason are the special endowments of humanity, the pinnacle of God's creation. When we cease to understand the role of language we misuse that privilege and can reshape reality just by changing our use of words. Al we need to do today to see the ustter wrong-headedness of our culture is to see what we have done with words. Words such as freedom, love, pleasure, and marriage have all lost their meanings. In the beginning was the Word. God has spoken. Language must mirror reality [<-- this emphasis is mine -- K].

"Language must mirror reality."

Yet, today it so often doesn't!

Just look at the word "tolerance." The proper definition includes a sense that you can live peaceably alongside something - or someone - you disagree with. These days, we are labled "intolerant" if we disagree with govenment welfare policies or with gay marriage; we are expected to endorse, promote and approve these things to be "tolerant."

But, how can you "tolerate" something with which you have no disagreement?

"Language must mirrow reality."

God made this whole universe. He spoke the laws of physics and biology and morality into existance. He Himself created reality!

If we are so foolish to try and wrest His power away and redesign reality, we will lose and He will have the last laugh. No matter what your IQ, no matter how many degrees you have or how much influence you wield, you cannot - you WILL not! - conquer God. Instead:

For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made,even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools, and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man—and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things. 

Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves, who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.

For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature.& Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due. 

And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness,they are whisperers, backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful, who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them. Is that not who we all are today?

Albert Mohler's article, "Reparative Therapy, Homosexuality and the Gospel of Jesus Christ," relates to this:

The normalization of homosexuality simply cannot be accepted by anyone committed to biblical Christianity. The new secular orthodoxy demands that Christians abandon the clear teachings of Scripture, and Christians must understand that the sinfulness of all homosexual behaviors is not only a matter of biblical authority, but also of the Gospel. To deny that sin is sin is to deny our need for the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Christians cannot accept any teaching that minimizes sin, for it is the knowledge of our sin that points us to our need for atonement, salvation, and the forgiveness of that sin through the cross of Jesus Christ.

Second, we must recognize that every human being is a sinner and that every sinner’s pattern of sexual attraction falls short of the glory of God. There is no sinner of physical maturity who will be able to say that he or she has never had a sinful thought related to sex or sexuality. Taking the Bible’s teachings about sin and sexuality with full force, we understand that every sinful human being is in need of redemption, and that includes the redemption of our sexual selves. As Isaiah says,

Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; 
      Who put darkness for light, and light for darkness; 
      Who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! 
      Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes, 
      And prudent in their own sight!

We have taken reality and are trying to turn it upside down. We try to remake words to fit our own depraved and fallen definitions, calling what is evil, good, and what is good, evil. We refuse to acknowledge that we are ALL sinners under God's righteous and holy condemnation and that any sin separates us from God and condemns us to eternal hell.

We have twisted language so torturously that is is almost impossible to call sin what it is. We have crippled our ability to offer the glorious hope of the Gospel of forgiveness and redemption. We ourselves, though our corruption of language, condemn people to hell because we do not call evil EVIL and show people their desperate need for their God and Savior. We damn them to a life lacking hope, lacking transforming renewal, and lacking the power to change.

God is the God of reality. "Language must mirror reality."

God help us all...

Obama just scorned the Republic our Founders gave us

Well, let me distinguish between professional politicians and the public at large. The public is not paying close attention to the ins and outs of how a Treasury option goes. They shouldn’t. They're worrying about their family; they're worrying about their jobs; they're worrying about their neighborhood. They've got a lot of other things on their plate. We're paid to worry about it.

State of the Union is tonight?

Yeah, well, who really cares? It's just going to be more of teh One™ puffing himself up, blaming GWB and the Republicans for all our woes, saying that if we spend even more we'll finally dig ourselves out of this recession, encouraging us to tighten our belts and sacrifice while he and Michelle-My-Belle swan off to wherever at taxpayers' expense, and calling for a bipartisanship that he honors only in the breech.

Why should I bother to tune in for such vacuous, self-involved idiocy?

Thanks, I'm gonna get a good night's sleep instead.

Are they hypocritical? Or just willfully blind? Or simply... stupid?

The liberal love affair with Islam is perplexing.  While liberals tend to hate traditional Christianity for its more socially conservative worldview, they insist on vigorously defending Islam and its adherents.  From Jon Stewart’s moralizing, to Joy Behar and Whoopi Goldberg’s outrage at Bill O’Reilly, to President Obama’s recent droning about the “spirit of tolerance” in the Indonesian Constitution (in spite of Indonesia’s laws prohibiting speech offensive to Islam), we are forever sermonized that there is a gulf between Islamist extremism and the “vast majority” of normal Muslims, whom we would apparently love to have as neighbors and run into at Whole Foods.

As they say, "Read the WHOLE thing." Very well done article that points out many of the similarities between Islam and Christianity that liberals refuse to acknowledge. It ALSO highlights some very important differences - and not to Islam's credit.

Democrats earn their "seal" yet again...

A staffer for a congressional Democrat who came up short on Tuesday reports that a team of about five people stopped by their offices this morning to talk about payroll, benefits, writing a résumé, and so forth, with staffers who are now job hunting.

But one of the staffers was described as a "counselor" to help with the emotional aspect of the loss — and a section in the packet each staffer was given dealt with the stages of grief (for instance, Stage One being anger, and so on). [link]

Obama - do you hear us NOW? (UPDATED)

(UPDATE: Oh, and I forgot that Michelle Malkin has a lovely round-up of the President's hubris in her article yesterday, "Take Your Olive Branch and Shove It, Democrats." So. "Compromise"? *ak, pffft!* Fuhgeddaboutit!)

I'm wondering, Mr. President, if you remember saying this:

President Obama listened to Republican gripes about his stimulus package during a meeting with congressional leaders Friday morning - but he also left no doubt about who's in charge of these negotiations. "I won," Obama noted matter-of-factly, according to sources familiar with the conversation.

The exchange arose as top House and Senate Republicans expressed concern to the president about the amount of spending in the package. They also raised red flags about a refundable tax credit that returns money to those who don’t pay income taxes, the sources said.

The Republicans stressed that they want to include more middle class tax cuts in the package, citing their proposal to cut the two lowest tax rates — 15 percent and 10 percent — to ten percent and five percent, rather than issue the refundable credit Obama wants.

At another point in the meeting, sources said Obama told the group: “This is a grave situation facing the country.” White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said Obama would hold another economic meeting in the White House Saturday for a "broader group."

After Friday's meeting, Democratic and Republican leaders publicly wrangled over the developing stimulus plan.

 But perhaps taking a cue from Obama’s “I won” line when Democrats were asked if they were concerned about Republicans blocking the package, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid had a swift one-word answer: “No.”

Mmmm? Remember that?

Well. Rush Limbaugh speaks for me - and, God willing, the new Congress - when he says this:

Every Democrat in the House, I don't care, every Democrat in the House, Blue Dogs that went out and openly campaigned, supporting Obama and health care lost.  We are two Americas.  We have flyover America and we have the coasts.  Take a look at the map.  It's 90% red.  The blue is on the coasts, a little bit in Texas, a little bit here in south Florida.  We do have two Americas and Obama is gonna do his best to continue to divide this country.  I have to laugh.  I laughed when I listened to these guys, Democrats, Obama and his aides talking about, "Well, now it's time to compromise."  No.  Compromise is off the table.  They didn't want to compromise with us and we have no business compromising with them.  They lost.  Losers compromise.  We don't.  We've got nothing to compromise. [emph. mine - Kat] Where do we compromise with this agenda?  There's not one aspect of this agenda that's worth compromising.  This agenda must be stopped.  That's what this election meant.

No. Just... NO.

American citizens are tired of "bipartisanship" meaning that people on the political right give in while people on the political left get what they want.

Time for the country to come to the center right - not careen off into the far left.

 

SUCK IT UP, and quit with the sour grapes, Republicans! (UPDATED)

You know, I'm already getting very tired of the sour grapes of establishment Republicans (yeah, I mean you!) on last night's Delaware primary results. Folks, the NRSC and NRCC et al. have been ignoring their base for YEARS - and now they're going to take their ball and sulk home like they did with Scozzafava? Seems to me to be an indication they don't want to listen to their base - and will continue to descend into penury and irrelevance.

Perhaps if these committees LISTENED to their base and LISTENED to the Tea Party people demanding fiscal restraint, transparency, and less government interference and then SOUGHT OUT good candidates, we wouldn't be in this predicament.

Will O'Donnell win in November? I don't know - but if the Republican Party organizations don't grow up and grit their teeth and SUPPORT her (you know, kinda like a lot of the BASE did for McCain because he selected PALIN as his running mate), the odds go even further down. It seems to me that too many Republicans would rather be defeated by the Democrats' candidate than TRY to get the Republican candidate elected.

This sort of attitude simply reeks with the elitist snobbery I despise in my own party (except, of course, I don't really consider myself a Republican anymore...). You know what I'm "hearing" in this? "Well, we believe in the people and we want to have limited government and get out of the way of the people and the country belongs to the people - except when the people are morons and don't like the candidate we have chosen for those ignorant, unwashed ignoramuses."

Like I said - "sour grapes."

Suck it up, Republicans. Get behind the candidate chosen by the people and TRY TO **blinking** WIN for once!

(And thanks to Jerry Fuhrman for his post which encouraged me to state MY thoughts on the matter - 'cause I'm very fed up with certain people-who-would-know-who-they-are-but-don't-read-me-anyway-but-that's-life*shrug*)

... if "establishment" candidates are willing to give anything more than lip service to the party they wished to represent, then they should be willing to roll up their sleeves and do the hard work of campaigning for someone they disagree with on issues. And they should do so remembering they are in it for the greater good.

The problem, at least on the GOP side of the equation, is that so many "establishment candidates" did not/do not wish to hold to the platform of their party. There is a platform adopted by the party for specific reasons. It gets re-drafted every presidential election cycle. And in the GOP it has been candidates who did not hold to the ideas of lower taxes, pro-life, pro-marriage, gun ownership rights, and strong national security that have been causing the problems for Republicans nationally. And for the same length of time, conscientious conservatives have been told to grin and bear it.

We were told that in the end having a majority with an (R) after their name was the best thing of all.
Well I see no reason why that statement can't hold true when a genuine Republican conservative wins a primary.

Burning the Koran (UPDATED)

UPDATE 2.0 on 09Sep2010 - Go over to Dan's place - he says it so much better than I do....

You know, it's really a somewhat interesting topic... Frankly, I am of two minds about it, which shouldn't surprise my fellow Christians at all ;-)

For those of you who don't know, there's a "pastor" in Gainesville, FL - Terry Jones - who is planning on having a Burning of the Koran Party (for lack of a better term) on September 11th. I haven't posted anything about it until now, but one of my favorite authors on the whole web, Jay Tea at Wizbang! (who is an agnostic), chimed in on the subject today, and I just had to clarify something.

Frankly, in my fleshly nature (for non-Christians, that means in my natural, sinful, in-rebellion-against-God side), I don't care two pins about the "atrocities" anyone wants to commit on the Koran. Burn it? Sure. Cover it in excrement? Fine. Warp it in bacon and deep fry it? No problem. After all the Muslim hypersensitivity on how WE must honor and be tolerant of their rules when WE find them irrelevant, noxious or intolerant, and after their consistant and extremely over the top reactions to what they perceive as "insults" to their religion or their soi-disant "prophet," I find it very difficult to dredge up anything more elevating than profound indifference.

If I don't bother to dredge up anything edifying, I confess I feel a rather snarky and somewhat gleeful satisfaction... But, as I said, that's my sinful nature speaking.

If I react as a Christian, however, I really cannot condone the plan of Mr. Jones and his church.

Is is because I'm worried about the "Muslim reaction"? No, not at all - except that, in this case, the church is acting in a very un-Churchlike - un Christ-like! - manner. I believe this is deliberately provocative in a way that has no biblical support whatsoever. It is one thing to provoke unfavorable reactions when acting appropriately - Jesus actually promises blessings for that:

Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

Taking a hit because of righteous action or righteous provocation is just fine - but smearing the name of Christ because you are taking unrighteous action is, as far as I'm concerned, just blasphemeing His name. Not only that, but this pastor and his church, if they follow through on this, are also encouraging others to tear down the name of Christ!

And that's why Mr. Jones and his church should not burn the Korans this Saturday.

Meanwhile, I'll be over here in the corner, trying to battle my snark and glee into submission....

General Motors plans an initial public offering as soon as today -- a first step in the government's effort to sell its ownership stake to private investors. The IPO comes on the heels of a much publicized plant tour by President Obama, who'll certainly hail the stock sale as proof he made a smart decision by bailing out the automaker with billions of taxpayer dollars.

But, to us, the IPO will be proof of something else: a White House that purposefully trampled the legal rights of investors -- many of whom, like us, are small savers -- to benefit its political supporters. Rather than a model of success and foresight, the GM episode is a model of corruption and cronyism.

Our Founders would be apoplectic over this governmental interference into the private sector, and they would be completely appalled at the way their descendants have fled from the principles of liberty and personal responsibility.

That's right: Levi Johnston's manager, Tank Jones, is confirming a report that Johnston is planning to run for city office in his hometown of Wasilla, Alaska, as part of a reality TV show.

"People can question whatever they want. I mean, he's going to keep on doing his thing," he said. "He was going to do this, even if this wasn't a reality show."

Oh, can we just say delusional, arrogant, egotistical... And freakin' CLUELESS??? I simply cannot comprehend how people can be so incredibly out of touch with REAL reality!

Chris Matthews is an idiot - and probably a closet racist, too!

MSNBC host Chris Matthews is under fire for commenting on air that President Obama has done so much to heal racial divides that "I forgot he was black" as he watched Obama's first State of the Union address Wednesday night.

Matthews, who appeared on the cable network shortly after the speech, said of the president:

"I was trying to think about who he was tonight. And uh, it's interesting. He is post-racial, by all appearances. You know, I forgot he was black tonight for an hour....

"I was watching, I said, 'wait a minute!' He's an African-American guy in front of a bunch of other white people and there he is president of the United States and we've completely forgotten that tonight -- completely forgotten it!"

I mean, really!!! Only someone to whom skin color is an actual issue would bring this up.

I don't care if Obama is orange with pink stripes and green polka-dots - I still despise his big government, socialist policies. I would despise them if he were a dedicated white supremacist, or an Asian immigrant, or an Hispanic "undocumented worker," or a woman, or the average "guy on the street." I don't care WHO puts forth these policies - I think they (the policies) are wrong, and should be abhorrent to any true American.

Chris Mathews - like most loony liberals - is still too concerned (and falsely so) with skin color, and cannot seem to separate a minor genetic issue with the content of someone's character or the intelligence of their policies.

I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.

Gee. Wonder where that quote came from?

But, no. Chris Matthews, like the rest of the hypocritical liberal left, cannot let a healing wound HEAL. He and his ilk keep picking at the scab - and if they have their way, eventually that wound won't heal. Instead, it will develop into a scar that nothing will erase - and it will be the fault of people like Chris Matthews.

Obama's policies (the DemonRATIC party's policies!) are crap, and they're going to bankrupt and ruin this country while putting its citizens in danger and releasing our sovereign rights to foreign powers. All tha has NOTHING to do with skin color!

Matthew's condemnation is just. God willing, this will be the straw that breaks the camel's back and forces him off the air in ignominious disgrace.

Happy New Year: TSA displays government efficiency and transparency... NOT!

Via Wired:  "TSA Threatens Blogger Who Posted New Screening Directive" -

Special agents from the TSA’s Office of Inspection interrogated two U.S. bloggers, one of them an established travel columnist, and served them each with a civil subpoena demanding information on the anonymous source that provided the TSA document.

The document, which the two bloggers published within minutes of each other Dec. 27, was sent by TSA to airlines and airports around the world and described temporary new requirements for screening passengers through Dec. 30, including conducting “pat-downs” of legs and torsos. The document, which was not classified, was posted by numerous bloggers. Information from it was also published on some airline websites.

“They’re saying it’s a security document but it was sent to every airport and airline,” says Steven Frischling, one of the bloggers. “It was sent to Islamabad, to Riyadh and to Nigeria. So they’re looking for information about a security document sent to 10,000-plus people internationally. You can’t have a right to expect privacy after that.”

Transportation Security Administration spokeswoman Suzanne Trevino said in a statement that security directives “are not for public disclosure.”

“TSA’s Office of Inspections is currently investigating how the recent Security Directives were acquired and published by parties who should not have been privy to this information,” the statement said.

My gosh, it's like TSA is doing it's best to replace the Keystone Cops!

Frischling, a freelance travel writer and photographer in Connecticut who writes a blog for the KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, said the two agents who visited him arrived around 7 p.m. Tuesday, were armed and threatened him with a criminal search warrant if he didn’t provide the name of his source. They also threatened to get him fired from his KLM job and indicated they could get him designated a security risk, which would make it difficult for him to travel and do his job.

“They were indicating there would be significant ramifications if I didn’t cooperate,” said Frischling, who was home alone with his three children when the agents arrived. “It’s not hard to intimidate someone when they’re holding a 3-year-old [child] in their hands. My wife works at night. I go to jail, and my kids are here with nobody.”

Frischling wrote on his blog that he decided to publish the TSA directive to clear up much of the confusion and speculation that was circulating among the public about changes that were being instituted in airport security procedures after a passenger unsuccessfully tried to ignite a bomb Dec. 25 using a syringe and explosive chemicals hidden in his underwear.

It's pragmatic because it "works" right now, but it's not practical because it provides no REAL solutions. As I said, this places America further in debt - a debt our children and grand children and GREAT-grand children will be paying.

It's extremely short-sighted and selfish, but then that doesn't surprise me when it comes from a DemonRATic Congress.

The compromise package Reid released Saturday puts new limits on insurance company  profits.The measure would require insurers in the individual market to spend 80 percent of premiums on medical care. The requirement for group policies would be 85 percent.

(Big business is is Teh Eeeeee-Vuhl™!!!! It must be stopped! Never mind the money it pumps into the economy via jobs and insurance payments... Look for reduced coverage, company layoffs, and refused new enrollments.)

Just another example of "religious" behavior and the fallenness of man

As the owner of several energy-efficient light bulbs and a recycled umbrella, I'm familiar with the critiques of "ethical consumption." In some cases, it's not clear that ostensibly green products are better for the environment. There's also the risk that these lifestyle choices will make us complacent, sapping the drive to call senators and chain ourselves to coal plants. Tweaking your shopping list, the argument goes, is at best woefully insufficient and maybe even counterproductive.

But new research by Nina Mazar and Chen-Bo Zhong at the University of Toronto levels an even graver charge: that virtuous shopping can actually lead to immoral behavior. In their study (described in a paper now in press at Psychological Science), subjects who made simulated eco-friendly purchases ended up less likely to exhibit altruism in a laboratory game and more likely to cheat and steal.

See, the thing is, this is really a form of legalism. People mentally get on board a mindset that makes them "good," and so they don't have to extend that "goodness" to all aspects of their lives.

Just like the Pharisees of Jesus' day, these people take on an outer righteousness which has nothing to do with their actual character or spiritual maturity. I can understand this; after all, following a set of rules can be very easy, and you don't have to think too much or really examine yourself to see if you're a "good" person.

True character and true spiritual maturity are much harder. One must always question motives and actions, and be held up to a higher standard. For the Christian, that standard is Jesus - and we know we never can attain that standard of perfection in word, thought or deed while we are here on earth.

Thank God that Jesus didn't just come to show us the standard! He also died and rose again to clothe us in His righteous perfection and to empower us to be conformed to His image. One day, we will be in Heaven with Him, we will see Him face to face, and we will finally be perfected and forever freed from legalism, self-righteousness, and pharisaic actions. We will shine forth with His glory... and finally be able to get it absolutely right!

For we know that the whole creation has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until now. And not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies. For in this hope we were saved. Now hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what he sees? But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience.(Romans 8:22-25, ESV)

Pfizer Inc. will shut down its massive New London research and development headquarters and transfer most of the 1,400 people working there to Groton, the pharmaceutical giant said Monday....

Pfizer is now deciding what to do with its giant New London offices, and will consider selling it, leasing it and other options, a company spokeswoman said.

Scott Bullock, Kelo's co-counsel in the case, told me: "This shows the folly of these redevelopment projects that use massive taxpayer subsidies and other forms of corporate welfare and abuse eminent domain."

Going Postal - er, "Muslim"

We are a civilized society. One of our cardinal rules of coexistence is that we (try always to) judge people only by their actions and not by their identity, whether racial, religious or sexual. This is our great strength as a society, and also, in the present circumstances, our great weakness: How to address the threat posed by the fact that, of the hundreds of thousands of Muslims in our midst, there are a few (perhaps many more than a few) who are so radicalized that they would kill their fellow Americans? Must we continue to be neutral in handling all people from different groups even though we know that there are differential risks posed by people of one group? The problem here is a heightened version of the airport security problem, where we check all people--including Chinese grandmothers--regardless of risk profiles. But can we afford that on a grand, national scale? (And I mean that question not merely in a financial sense, but also in terms of the price we'd pay in failing to detect a threat in time.)

Israel is looking like the new leader of the Free World. The previous leader, the United States, resigned this role last week at the United Nations to take the position of global community organizer. This was made plain by President Obama in his speech, titled "Responsibility for Our Common Future," in which he heralded "a new chapter of international cooperation."

This just makes me sick. The more I read about his actions and policies, the more I listen to his narcissistic and self-indulgent rhetoric, the more disgusted I become.

I want to say so many things, but I think they're all summed up with "Obama is a disgrace." He's going to be worse than Jimmy Carter, God help us, and I just pray that it won't take the American people long to wake up to reality.

Wait... No, they won't stab us in the back; they've already made their hostility to freedom, democracy and the United States quite clear. Little Green Footballs (get your own link) used to be a fairly regular stop of mine (oh, about four or five years ago), but I quit reading him because I got bored. Recently, LGF has come back to my attention because of his libel (my opinion: I'm not a lawyer) of Stacy McCain (just click here and keep scrolling).

Now, as you see from this video, LGF has apparently compounded his already abysmal and blatant insanity by jumping on the bandwagon with other barking moonbats (gee, it's been a while since I've used that phrase; I'm going to have to rectify that...) and having a collective meltdown about Glenn Beck's alleged cruelty to a poor frog.

*sigh* It would actually be hilarious if it weren't so darn pathetic.

I didn't even have to wear my glasses to see that Beck threw an obvious NOTHING into the pot. D'uh, folks! If you couldn't see that on the original clip - even the one that LGF et al. posted - you need glasses worse than I do! (Which, technically, isn't saying much, because I have a very minor correction and only wear glasses when I'm driving... But you get the point...)

[UPDATE: OK, well, on perhaps the forth viewing of the clip, I think I heard a little *plip* of something entering the boiling water... Still didn't see it, though. Nevertheless, as Beck points out, in the very next sentence he states the frog is fake, and Ambassador Bolton verifies it's a fake, rubber frog. Geeze, people, get a life! /update]

But it was the use of the U.N. forum to carry the settlement message to Israel that drew the most enthusiastic response on the floor -- and incredulous reaction outside its walls.

Obama just put Israel "on the chopping block," said former U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. John Bolton.

Obama said he met Tuesday with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who was not in attendance at the speech, and agreed that the two have made some progress in both strengthening security and facilitating freedom of movement, which have allowed the economy in the West Bank to grow.

What's that definition of insanity? "Doing the same thing, the same way, and expecting different results"?

HOW many times has Palestine been brought to the table for peace talks? HOW many times has Israel graciously turned the other cheek? Israel has endured unprovoked, murderous attacks on its citizens ever since they became their own state, and have reacted aggressively only on comparatively rare occasions, and under extreme and foul provocation.

Palestine? Palestine has received pats on the head from the whole world, billions - trillions, probably - of dollars in aid and relief, and in response they elected a terrorist organization to power, continue the unprovoked and cowardly attacks on Israeli civilians, and refuse to renounce their intent to destroy Israel.

The second paragraph of Hamas' charter (you know, Hamas, the elected ruling party of Palestine? The terrorist organization?? Ooops! Ron, over in the comments at Virginia Virtucon, reminds me that it's Fatah. But - a difference which makes no difference... IS no difference) states

Israel will exist and will continue to exist until Islam will obliterate it, just as it obliterated others before it" (The Martyr, Imam Hassan al-Banna, of blessed memory).

In the second paragraph of their charter! They obviously think this is a critical point to make, to give it such high priority...

You know, that's racist and genocidal - it's amazing that all the liberal lunatics are so concerned with "free speech" and the "rights of mankind," and yet refuse to open their eyes and SEE that this is insanity!

Obama and all those who favor talking with the Palestinians are willfully irresponsible and criminally callous when they insist that Israel cannot be permitted to protect its citizens and itself from slaughter.

I hope Prime Minister Netanyahu spits in Obama's eye on behalf of the Israeli people.

I firmly believe that America is in great danger due to Obama's stance on Israel. Not just because he is giving respect to terrorists who have no interest in peace and coexistence with Israel, but also because of God's great promise to Abram when He called him out of Ur:

Now the LORD said to Abram, "Go from your country and your kindred and your father’s house to the land that I will show you. And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed."

America has steadily removed blessing after blessing from our ally, Israel. I believe that we have now, definitely, crossed the line and begun cursing it.

The Palestinians pray to their great "god," allah, who is nothing more than a demon from hell who is intent on the destruction of lives and souls. Demons are created beings who once were angels in Heaven before they followed Satan in prideful rebellion and were thrown out - and there is no chance of redemption for them.

God - the true God, the Creator and Sustainer of all, the Good God, the Loving God, the Merciful God, the Righteous God, the real Judge of all the earth, the Omnipotent God who gave the Promise to Abram and Israel after him - is so far above "allah" that, as the song goes,

The Prince of Darkness grim,
we tremble not for him;
his rage we can endure,
for lo, his doom is sure;
one little word shall fell him.

One little word.

"allah" is just a pissant wannabe. He's so over-matched that his final end won't even be a byline in the weekly small town paper!

And at this point, I can't see many other options for Obama: Either he is greatly deluded and does not know the facts of his professed faith in Christ or the clear word of the Bible, as well as being incredibly naive, or... He is a willful servant of Satan and his minions and will end up being cut down by the God who still holds Israel as the apple of His eye.

President Obama, I strongly urge you to reconsider your stance on Israel and Palestine. If you do not, I warn you that, as the old saying goes, "Your arms too short to box with God."

This is one reason why I never watch any of these award shows anymore. I mean, why should I? I think the only award show that doesn't seem to go out of its way to offend Christians (besides the Dove Awards - d'uh!) is the Country Music Awards. The RNC: the Epitome of "Chutzpah"

Gentlemen and ladies (I use those terms out of courtesy only) of the RNC: May I direct your attention to this post and this one as well? To paraphrase a very fine man who was a great Republican, "I didn't leave the [Republican] Party; it left me."

The one and only time I ever gave to the RNC was right after John McCain (RINO-AZ) chose Sarah Palin as his running mate. I was going to vote third party, but the choice of Sarah Palin gave me new hope that perhaps the Republican Party intended to return to its roots of small government, fiscal conservatism, and faithfulness to the Constitution-as-written.

Well. We all know how that turned out. (And Bill Whittle has an excellent video which beautifully and eloquently outlines what I'd like to say about that fiasco!)

Arrogant women and spineless men

Too many women are seduced by the common image in the media today of the sexy, high-powered, important, ball-busting career woman. She’s hot, she’s smart, she doesn’t take any crap, and she knows she’s got it all. She doesn’t need a man. Think Samantha or Miranda from Sex and the City. About half of the heroines in chick flicks fit this mold (the other half are desperate for a man and do nothing but sit around waiting for Mr. Right to magically appear). They always end up with some man who surprises them and is “nothing that they want”, but inevitably, the man who starts off in the beginning unwilling to be Ms. Powerful’s doormat always ends up, in the end, becoming just that. After seeing that for so long, women start to emulate those women. They expect their relationships to work that way. They expect to be able to get away with being a ball-busting bitch and have their man just happily take it.

There’s just a small problem.

No man will ever be happy in that kind of relationship, and neither will any woman.

No. I agree with Cassy - this sort of relationship is a recipe for disaster! It's insulting to both parties, and I'm truly astonished at how many women have turned into disgusting and unattractive harpies because they've bought into this satanic (yes, I meant satanic!) worldview.

One of the things the Bible says about this is in 1 Peter 3:3-4:

Do not let your adorning be external—the braiding of hair and the putting on of gold jewelry, or the clothing you wear— but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God’s sight is very precious.

Women are not supposed to be strident, vicious, selfish, arrogant and condescending witches (true, men aren't supposed to be testosterone-addicted, overbearing boors either, but we're dealing with women at the moment)! How much better to be calm and gracious, firmly stating your views and wishes with courtesy and respect to whomever you're addressing? Isn't that how women want to be treated, with courtesy and respect? Well, then, if you're not willing to give it, then don't expect to get it!

If Megan Fox and "womyn" like her want to behave like screeching harridans, I certainly can't stop them. But, like I tell my daughter, "You can choose your actions, but you cannot choose the consequences."

Unless Ms. Fox has a drastic change of attitude, I suspect her consequences might include a long string of shattered relationships, cauterized emotions, and a very lonely old age.

Am I surprised at racism in Hawaii?

Celia Padron went on a Hawaiian vacation last year, lured by the prospect of beautiful beaches and friendly people. She, her husband and two teenage daughters enjoyed the black sand beach at Makena State Park on Maui. But a Hawaiian girl accosted her two teenage daughters, saying, "Go back to the mainland" and "Take your white ass off our beaches," says Padron, a pediatric gastroenterologist in New Jersey.

When her husband, 68 at the time, stepped between the girls, three young Hawaiian men slammed him against a vehicle, cutting his ear, and choked and punched him, Padron says. Police officers persuaded the Padrons not to press charges, saying it would be expensive for them to return for court appearances and a Hawaiian judge would side with the Hawaiian assailants, the doctor contends.

"There is no doubt in my mind [the attack] was racially motivated," she adds.

Surprised? No, not terribly so.

My husband and I were very blessed that when we lived on Oahu from 1990-95, we had no incidents like this directed at us, but even then, Mililani Trask was spouting her agenda. Even then, there were places a haole (white) were wise to avoid. Plus, it was pretty much an accepted fact that if you didn't have ohana (family), your large business or stellar career would have more *ahem* hindrances than if you did.

Please don't get me wrong - I love Hawaii, it's beauty and warm Aloha spirit. This incident, in my experience, is by far the exception rather than the rule.

But it doesn't surprise me at all.

When police officers act like this, it sure as heck isn't!! I hope this is followed up, because with the information I have just from this video, this policeman needs a reprimand, at least!

WHICH specific law did the protester break? If it was indeed illegal to show the signs on private property, WHY wasn't it enforced for ALL displayed signs? What other people did this officer confront? Did he issue any citations that night?

I would very much like to know more of the story.

And the officer's parting comment - no matter that it was intended in sarcasm - is definitely beyond the pale!

His most important campaign promises repealing the Defense of Marriage Act and the military ban on openly gay and lesbian service-members have not been fulfilled.

Iran says it's developing nuclear power to generate electricity while it waits for the 12th Imam and the apocalypse to arrive. To hasten the process, however, it is using its nuclear knowledge to amass fissile material necessary to build a bomb. It's developing missiles to deliver that bomb, presumably somewhere in the heart of downtown Tel Aviv.

Our new administration is trying to talk them out of it, and the Iranians are quite willing to drag out the conversation as long as it takes to develop their nuclear weapon and the means to deliver it.

Behar, of course, had to add in her usual quip. “Isn’t it like water boarding- when they dump your head under there like that?” Fellow host Elisabeth Hasselbeck quickly replied with, “no.”

As for me, yesterday was busy. I took out the trash - and this is pretty much normal procedure when living in the country and the nearest trash collection is three miles away (no, we don't have a garbage service out this far!) (oh, and click to embiggen!)

And I got my first produce out of my garden! Well, I have been getting strawberries already, but these lovely - and spicy! - radishes were from seed:

 

And, I've got a couple pictures of my brilliant and adorable daughter that I dug up the other day. Here she is at about two years old (is she the cutest, or what??)

Oh! And I've got a picture of a turtle I took the other day. He was crossing our driveway, and it's a good thing I was going slowly (for me), or I would have run right over him!

Finally, our pool has been open for a good three weeks already. This summer looks like it will be wonderful; not too dry and not too hot. So, that's all I have for now, and I really need to get caught up in my Bible reading [swats self]!

President Obama, in a pivot from a campaign promise, told Democratic senators Tuesday that he is willing to consider taxing employer-sponsored health benefits to help pay for a broad expansion of coverage.

Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus, D-Mont., said Obama expressed a willingness to consider changing the existing tax exclusion. The decision probably would anger liberal supporters such as labor unions, but such a tax change would raise enormous sums of money as Congress and the White House struggle to find the estimated $1.2 trillion needed to pay for an overhaul of health care over the next decade.

Yeah, that's the completely unbiased and totally non-partisan Seattle Slimes oops Times.

You know, if the tone-deaf and too-comfortable-on-their-asses... persons... in Washington DC would actually STOP SPENDING MONEY WE DON'T HAVE... Ah, no... why bother? The sheeple want their free money, and so the government will write more and more bad checks while trying to extort more "revenue" out of the pockets of those of us who actually work and produce goods and services...

Socialism looms close on the horizon, and the destruction of this wonderful country cannot be far behind.

I will give the Seattle Times some props, though - here's the last sentence in their article:

For one Arlington woman, the answer was "no" after she hung an American flag in her office just before the Memorial Day weekend.

Debbie McLucas is one of four hospital supervisors at Kindred Hospital in Mansfield. Last week, she hung a three-by-five foot American flag in the office she shares with the other supervisors.

When McLucas came to work Friday, her boss told her another supervisor had found her flag offensive. "I was just totally speechless. I was like, 'You're kidding me,'" McLucas said.

Some ignorant and intolerant... person... was offended by the display of a flag for Memorial Day weekend?!

McLucas said the supervisor who complained has been in the United States for 14 years and is formerly from Africa. McLucas said the supervisor took down Debbie's flag herself.

This ... person...  has been in America for 14 years, enjoying the hospitality, liberty and prosperity of America, and is OFFENDED at the display of the flag?

I have one thing to say: GET OUT.

As for the craven cowardice displayed by the admin department of the hospital, I would suggest that you call (817) 473-6101, ask for Administration, and offer them your thoughts. Firmly, politely - but very decisively.

Kindred Hospital Mansfield has a great deal of appreciation for the service that many of our employees and their families have given to their country. We honor our veterans and active military through a variety of benefits and service programs. This was an isolated incident between two employees that we are working to resolve amicably. Both employees have family members who have served in the military. The disagreement was over the size of the flag and not what it symbolized. We have invited the employee to put the flag back up. We share their love of country and we appreciate the service of their family members as well as all members of the armed forces.

And NBC Dallas confirmed the facts stated in that comment.

Nevertheless, even if this is an office kerfuffle, the management should not have caved so readily. AND the supervisor who took it down behaved childishly. I still would like to know whether that person is a citizen or not...

When I was down in Orlando for my Mom's second knee replacement surgery, Crissie tracked me down just so she could offer me encouragement and prayer. She was insistent that if I needed ANYTHING, I was to call her and she'd do whatever she could to help out.

I cannot imagine any leftist turd having such a generosity of spirit paired with a loving and humble attitude, and this idiot, Cooper, does nothing to change my mind.

Chrissie, I'm sending lots of hugs and prayer, and if you need ANYTHING, it would be my honor and joy to return the wonderful kindness you gave to me!

Love and hugz, my friend; don't let the turkeys get you down. After all, as my Mom might say, "Consider the source!" ;-)

This is yet another example of how the left is all for free speech - so long as you agree with them.
