Are they hypocritical? Or just willfully blind? Or simply... stupid?

The liberal love affair with Islam is perplexing.  While liberals tend to hate traditional Christianity for its more socially conservative worldview, they insist on vigorously defending Islam and its adherents.  From Jon Stewart’s moralizing, to Joy Behar and Whoopi Goldberg’s outrage at Bill O’Reilly, to President Obama’s recent droning about the “spirit of tolerance” in the Indonesian Constitution (in spite of Indonesia’s laws prohibiting speech offensive to Islam), we are forever sermonized that there is a gulf between Islamist extremism and the “vast majority” of normal Muslims, whom we would apparently love to have as neighbors and run into at Whole Foods.

As they say, "Read the WHOLE thing." Very well done article that points out many of the similarities between Islam and Christianity that liberals refuse to acknowledge. It ALSO highlights some very important differences - and not to Islam's credit.

Burning the Koran (UPDATED)

UPDATE 2.0 on 09Sep2010 - Go over to Dan's place - he says it so much better than I do....

You know, it's really a somewhat interesting topic... Frankly, I am of two minds about it, which shouldn't surprise my fellow Christians at all ;-)

For those of you who don't know, there's a "pastor" in Gainesville, FL - Terry Jones - who is planning on having a Burning of the Koran Party (for lack of a better term) on September 11th. I haven't posted anything about it until now, but one of my favorite authors on the whole web, Jay Tea at Wizbang! (who is an agnostic), chimed in on the subject today, and I just had to clarify something.

Frankly, in my fleshly nature (for non-Christians, that means in my natural, sinful, in-rebellion-against-God side), I don't care two pins about the "atrocities" anyone wants to commit on the Koran. Burn it? Sure. Cover it in excrement? Fine. Warp it in bacon and deep fry it? No problem. After all the Muslim hypersensitivity on how WE must honor and be tolerant of their rules when WE find them irrelevant, noxious or intolerant, and after their consistant and extremely over the top reactions to what they perceive as "insults" to their religion or their soi-disant "prophet," I find it very difficult to dredge up anything more elevating than profound indifference.

If I don't bother to dredge up anything edifying, I confess I feel a rather snarky and somewhat gleeful satisfaction... But, as I said, that's my sinful nature speaking.

If I react as a Christian, however, I really cannot condone the plan of Mr. Jones and his church.

Is is because I'm worried about the "Muslim reaction"? No, not at all - except that, in this case, the church is acting in a very un-Churchlike - un Christ-like! - manner. I believe this is deliberately provocative in a way that has no biblical support whatsoever. It is one thing to provoke unfavorable reactions when acting appropriately - Jesus actually promises blessings for that:

Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

Taking a hit because of righteous action or righteous provocation is just fine - but smearing the name of Christ because you are taking unrighteous action is, as far as I'm concerned, just blasphemeing His name. Not only that, but this pastor and his church, if they follow through on this, are also encouraging others to tear down the name of Christ!

And that's why Mr. Jones and his church should not burn the Korans this Saturday.

Meanwhile, I'll be over here in the corner, trying to battle my snark and glee into submission....

Going Postal - er, "Muslim"

We are a civilized society. One of our cardinal rules of coexistence is that we (try always to) judge people only by their actions and not by their identity, whether racial, religious or sexual. This is our great strength as a society, and also, in the present circumstances, our great weakness: How to address the threat posed by the fact that, of the hundreds of thousands of Muslims in our midst, there are a few (perhaps many more than a few) who are so radicalized that they would kill their fellow Americans? Must we continue to be neutral in handling all people from different groups even though we know that there are differential risks posed by people of one group? The problem here is a heightened version of the airport security problem, where we check all people--including Chinese grandmothers--regardless of risk profiles. But can we afford that on a grand, national scale? (And I mean that question not merely in a financial sense, but also in terms of the price we'd pay in failing to detect a threat in time.)

Tunku Varadarajan makes some excellent points besides what I've quoted above.

And to answer his question, I'd have to say, we cannot afford to remain neutral in handling people. It leaves too many opportunities open for our enemies and for those who want to maim and destroy our culture.

I don't know whether our intelligence agencies are being willfully blind, or if they've been forced to operate under these PC restrictions by the administration (and Bush's administration wasn't too good at calling evil by its rightful name, either).

Either way, it does not bode well for the safety of the citizens of America.

The fact that there are some who have now created an entire new classification called; “pre-virtual vicarious Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)” is unconscionable.

If Allahpundit is accurate in his assumption that our participation in the walk-out had Obama's approval, then perhaps teh One isn't quite as crazy as I thought (now there's an example of "damning with faint praise!).

Obama is not operating on all cylinders

In declaring that it is time for Middle East peace "without preconditions," President Obama used his speech to the U.N. General Assembly Wednesday to fire a warning at Israel that "America does not accept the legitimacy of continued Israeli settlements."

Obama's stark declaration, which drew applause, was coupled with a call for Palestinians to end their "incitement of Israel."

But it was the use of the U.N. forum to carry the settlement message to Israel that drew the most enthusiastic response on the floor -- and incredulous reaction outside its walls.

Obama just put Israel "on the chopping block," said former U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. John Bolton.

Obama said he met Tuesday with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who was not in attendance at the speech, and agreed that the two have made some progress in both strengthening security and facilitating freedom of movement, which have allowed the economy in the West Bank to grow.

What's that definition of insanity? "Doing the same thing, the same way, and expecting different results"?

HOW many times has Palestine been brought to the table for peace talks? HOW many times has Israel graciously turned the other cheek? Israel has endured unprovoked, murderous attacks on its citizens ever since they became their own state, and have reacted aggressively only on comparatively rare occasions, and under extreme and foul provocation.

Palestine? Palestine has received pats on the head from the whole world, billions - trillions, probably - of dollars in aid and relief, and in response they elected a terrorist organization to power, continue the unprovoked and cowardly attacks on Israeli civilians, and refuse to renounce their intent to destroy Israel.

The second paragraph of Hamas' charter (you know, Hamas, the elected ruling party of Palestine? The terrorist organization?? Ooops! Ron, over in the comments at Virginia Virtucon, reminds me that it's Fatah. But - a difference which makes no difference... IS no difference) states

Israel will exist and will continue to exist until Islam will obliterate it, just as it obliterated others before it" (The Martyr, Imam Hassan al-Banna, of blessed memory).

In the second paragraph of their charter! They obviously think this is a critical point to make, to give it such high priority...

You know, that's racist and genocidal - it's amazing that all the liberal lunatics are so concerned with "free speech" and the "rights of mankind," and yet refuse to open their eyes and SEE that this is insanity!

Obama and all those who favor talking with the Palestinians are willfully irresponsible and criminally callous when they insist that Israel cannot be permitted to protect its citizens and itself from slaughter.

I hope Prime Minister Netanyahu spits in Obama's eye on behalf of the Israeli people.

I firmly believe that America is in great danger due to Obama's stance on Israel. Not just because he is giving respect to terrorists who have no interest in peace and coexistence with Israel, but also because of God's great promise to Abram when He called him out of Ur:

Now the LORD said to Abram, "Go from your country and your kindred and your father’s house to the land that I will show you. And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed."

America has steadily removed blessing after blessing from our ally, Israel. I believe that we have now, definitely, crossed the line and begun cursing it.

The Palestinians pray to their great "god," allah, who is nothing more than a demon from hell who is intent on the destruction of lives and souls. Demons are created beings who once were angels in Heaven before they followed Satan in prideful rebellion and were thrown out - and there is no chance of redemption for them.

God - the true God, the Creator and Sustainer of all, the Good God, the Loving God, the Merciful God, the Righteous God, the real Judge of all the earth, the Omnipotent God who gave the Promise to Abram and Israel after him - is so far above "allah" that, as the song goes,

The Prince of Darkness grim,
we tremble not for him;
his rage we can endure,
for lo, his doom is sure;
one little word shall fell him.

One little word.

"allah" is just a pissant wannabe. He's so over-matched that his final end won't even be a byline in the weekly small town paper!

And at this point, I can't see many other options for Obama: Either he is greatly deluded and does not know the facts of his professed faith in Christ or the clear word of the Bible, as well as being incredibly naive, or... He is a willful servant of Satan and his minions and will end up being cut down by the God who still holds Israel as the apple of His eye.

President Obama, I strongly urge you to reconsider your stance on Israel and Palestine. If you do not, I warn you that, as the old saying goes, "Your arms too short to box with God."

Europe, if you don't take a STRONG stand NOW, and insist that the Muslims afford you every respect and courtesy they desire for themselves, you're going to either convert to Islam, start paying the dhimmi tax and learning what the Jews felt like in Nazi Germany... Or you'll be dead.

Does Europe really want to open the door - however slightly - to Sharia law for EVERYONE?

And as for America... To my country I would say "See what is hapening in Europe? That's going to happen here, if we don't stand strong upon the foundation of freedom given to us by God and our Founders."

No. You note that, although BECAUSE [thanks to my bog-brother Jim Bowden] our Founders and original citizens were mostly Christian, they gave us a framework which today allows us to say pretty much anything we want, without fear of our heads being whacked off by the religious police - just to start.

He is SO big, SO powerful, and SO perfect, that He permits us our "free speech" to try to bring Him down...

"allah" however, is so small, so weak, so insignificant [not a problem when "allah" is simply a non-god-demon of false religion], that "allah" must insist that no one may investigate his claims or his commands or his spokesmen.

"allah" is no god - he is a demon and weak, controlling, petty-ante nobody of a demon who just wants to enslave and demean humanity and control them so they live in hate versus compassion, love, justice and holiness. He maintains his power through fear and deception.

I would invite them to leave America and go live in an Islamic country - and try to retain the freedoms we take for granted here. Have fun.

Freedom isn't free, folks. It takes vigilance and perseverance, and determination... Which is in decline in Europe, and which is well under way here in America.

I hadn't posted these before because of the computer issues I've been having (but my new laptop should be here Tuesday!!!!), but the Jawa Report has two videos which reminds us of just what the murderous and satanic "religion" of Islam can be.

I am only going to link them, because they are GRAPHIC IN THE EXTREME and NOT FOR THE KIDS! Blood, gore, horror, callous disregard for life and no respect for others made in God's image. The religion which promotes these atrocities - even in the "fringe groups" (and how "fringe" are the Taliban and Al-Quaeda, anyway? Not very...) - is no "religion of peace."

Islam is a religion of legalism, intolerance, murder, and death. Period. These two videos are merely two more bricks in the massive foundation of proof available.

Out of Islam and into the grace of God

My blog-brother Jim Bowden linked this video of Dr. Ergun Caner, who is the Dean at Liberty Baptist University and a former muslim. It's going to take you about thirty minutes to watch, but it is FANTASTIC!

After I'd seen that video, I poked around a little more and discovered that Dr. Caner has a brother who has also converted to Christianity. They appear together in this video:

What courage and conviction - and what grace! As "apostates," they are marked for death, yet they stand up and proclaim the truth of the Fatherhood and love of God, and the glory of Christ their Savior...

"They hated Me first..."

Instapundit points me over to Classical values with this comment:

SELECTIVE FEAR OF RELIGION? Demonstrating, I guess, that it's better to be feared than to be loved. But then, they say you always hurt the one you love . . . .

CV initially discusses how people are afraid of criticizing Islam, but not other religions, particularly Christianity:

What intrigues me is why so many of those who are afraid to criticize Islam are nonetheless quite fearless when it comes to other religions. 

It's easy to dismiss this as cowardly hypocrisy, as selective religious bigotry, or as anti-Western bias, which of course a lot of it is. 

But I think another dimension is post-9/11 denial. This is not ordinary denial, as it's closely related to the fiercely anti-war people whose hatred toward Bush is often characterized as "Bush Derangement Syndrome." Before 9/11, there was plenty of hypocrisy, and religious bigotry, plenty of anti-Western bias, and plenty of cowards, but they generally did not hesitate to criticize Islam. Feminists in Berkeley used to demonstrate against the veil. 

Yet the fact, is, this "fear" of criticizing Islam is comparatively recent, and closely related to 9/11. The tenets of Christianity -- even over-the-top fundamentalist zealotry -- has not changed since 9/11, nor has Mormonism. But Western religions are attacked as never before. I think they're substitute targets.

He updates his post with a response to Prof. Reynolds' comment:

My thanks to Glenn Reynolds for the link, and the thoughtful observations. If it is better to be feared than loved, then Islam is better than Christianity, as it is more feared. 

But if we add to that the paradox that "you always hurt the one you love," it gets even more complicated, because in the ordinary course of things, the "one you love" also loves you. And in theory at least, Christianity is built on love. Which means that those who hurt Christians are supposed to be loved by them in return.

I would remind my fellow Christians that we ought not be surprised by this. After all, Jesus said:

If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. Remember the word that I said to you, ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you. If they kept My word, they will keep yours also. Columbia University President Lee Bollinger showed moral courage

Mr. Bollinger, I was immensely skeptical of and disgusted with Columbia University's decision to permit Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to speak at your facility. With this speech, however, you have done much to redeem your institution's reputation.

Thanks to the Vodkapundit (Steven Green), I just read this news article which says:

Former President Jimmy Carter said Wednesday that it was almost inconceivable that Iran would "commit suicide" by launching missiles at Israel.

Carter did not dismiss the idea that Iran might want to attack Israel, noting Iran's refusal to suspend uranium enrichment production despite two United Nations resolutions imposing sanctions on the country. Tehran insists its nuclear program is aimed at producing energy for civilian use but the U.S., its European allies and many others fear the program's real aim is to produce nuclear weapons.

"Obviously, we all hope we can do whatever we can to keep Iran from becoming a nuclear power," Carter said.

Israeli officials are treating Iran's latest claims that it has 600 Shihab-3 missiles aimed at targets throughout the country the same way it treated Teheran's claims last month to have crossed a key nuclear threshold: by listening carefully, but not believing everything they hear.

Earlier Monday, an Iranian Web site affiliated with the regime reported that 600 Shihab-3 missiles were pointed at targets throughout Israel and would be launched if either Iran or Syria were attacked.

"Iran will shoot 600 missiles at Israel if it is attacked," the Iranian news Web site, Assar Iran, reported, saying such a barrage would "only be the first reaction."

According to the report, dozens of locations throughout Iraq being used by the US Army have also been targeted. The Shihab missile has a range of 1,300 km. and can reach anywhere in Israel.

Yeah, Iran would LOVE to attack Israel. No, Israel is NOT too far away fro Iran. And "...it's inconceivable that Iran would commit suicide by launching... missiles of any kind..."?

At least, that's what comes to my mind when I see a headline which states that "Ahmadinejad is the 'Socrates of the Third Millennium,' says the president's office."

That's pronounced "So-crates," right?

Man, I bet that - if he weren't already decomposed to dust - Socrates would be spinning in his grave in absolute indignation! You know, Socrates is one of the founders of Western philosophy, used critical reasoning and had an "unwavering commitment to the truth," something one could hardly ascribe to the Holocaust-denier, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

In the Socratic dialogues, his extended conversations with students, statesmen, and friends invariably aim at understanding and achieving virtue {Gk. areth [aretê]} through the careful application of a dialectical method that employs critical inquiry to undermine the plausibility of widely-held doctrines. In what way can you possibly twist reality to say that Ahmadinejad is even vaguely worthy of taking up this mantle of philosophical honor?

Oh, that's right, it's Iran and its sycophantic and obsequious adoration of the madman they "elected" president...

In the document, various speeches and letters written by the Iranian president are analysed [sic] and it concludes that "Ahmadinejad reasons and discusses exactly as Socrates did in ancient Greece, by disarming other speakers and through his sharp reasoning."

Folks, what we have here is a major disconnect with reality! But, then, that's really what the adventures of Bill and Ted were all about...

Iranian leader was denied Ground Zero visit

Well, D'UH!

To have I'madinnerjacket (that's Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to the dhimmis) escorted with pomp and circumstance and all sorts of diplomatic honors and courtesies to the scene of one of the greatest tragedies and obscenities to ever take place on American soil...

Well, the fact that is was even considered is obscene!

An advance team for the president of Iran, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, asked earlier this month that he be allowed to lay a wreath at the World Trade Center site during the opening of the United Nations General Assembly next week, but the request was denied, New York City police officials said today.

Police Commissioner Raymond W. Kelly caused considerable confusion earlier today when he suggested that the request was still pending. In fact, police officials said later, the request — made at a meeting that included the Secret Service and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey — was denied for reasons of security and safety. They added that Mr. Ahmadinejad’s aides had asked that he be allowed into the pit, where construction is taking place.

Yeah. Fat freakin' chance any sensible and patriotic American would allow that!

Ahmadinejad: the leader of a country which is a major sponsor of Islamofascist ideology and terrorism, who is a Holocaust-denier, who would *love* to wipe Israel off the map, whose religion would like to subject all the world to its intolerant and cruel "legal" system, a man who represents all that America ought to hate and despise...!

To allow the representative of a country and religion of death, terrorism, despotism, and fear access to Ground Zero would be... almost blaspheming the memory of those men and women who were callously MURDERED by allah-fearing MUSLIMS intent on gaining Paradise by killing infidels.

Well, so sorry to say this, but I confess that I wouldn't shed a single tear if the Righteous Judge of all the earth would choose to allow His judgment fall upon Mahmoud Amadinejad in a very public and... explosive... way.

But the Living God is far more merciful than I... Perhaps He will send His Spirit to convict Amadinejad of the Truth, and we will have a very public and controversial conversion. In which case, I'll understand how the early Christians felt about the Apostle Paul, initially...

Who was it that said, "First, we hang all the lawyers"? He ought to have said "politicians"!

Franklin.com caves, too

Well, y'all may remember a few weeks ago that the book, Alms for Jihad, had been removed from publication. Cambridge University Press cravenly gave in to Khalid bin Mafouz (interesting results on the Google search, huh?) and recalled the book, destroying copies as they returned.

Sadly, libraries and bookstores all over America complied, until only the eBook format was available. Or so I thought.

I got a tip that Franklin.com had the book available for download. Franklin, you may recall, is a very popular manufacturer of pocket dictionaries and thesauruses in an electronic format. It was rather a nice surprise to see that they offered other products!

Well, I went to Franklin.com, and sure enough, the book was available - but only in very specific formats. Customers who wanted to purchase Alms for Jihad had to go to MobiPocket, to download their reader program. After installing the MobiPocket Reader, you could find your product ID and use it as a code at Franklin to activate the download for your book.

Problem was, MobiPocket was down for over a week; I only was able to access it yesterday for the download and install.

So, I just tried to get my copy of Alms for Jihad... But Franklin's download page erred out. Unfortunately, calling the customer service line only gave me the bad news that Franklin.com, too, has pulled the book.

Welcome to Islamofascist censorship, folks.

And BRAVO to all those brave bookstores and librarians and publishers who stood up for what was right and refused to allow it!

A couple of articles a friend sent caught my attention this morning, so I thought I'd toss up a few links which display just how "fair" and "tolerant" CAIR is when it comes to our First Amendment rights:

A televangelist loses his show:

The controversial late-night Christian talk show host, known for his biting criticism of religious, political and pop culture figures, is going off the air. Keller, 49, says he ran afoul of the Tampa Chapter of the Council of American Islamic Relations. The group calls Live Prayer with Bill Keller a hate-filled broadcast that damages Muslims and Islam.

Earlier this month, CAIR asked CBS executives to remove Keller's nightly talk show from WTOG-TV Ch. 44, a CBS-owned station that airs the CW network locally. The group was upset about a spate of recent broadcasts by Keller that disparaged Islam and the prophet Mohammad.

Three officials of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) in Ohio admit to going unannounced to a man’s home to confront him over a bumper sticker on his car – a testament, they claim, of their tolerance and moderation. The incident occurred last year, but the CAIR trio involved – Ahmad Al-Akhras, CAIR national vice chairman, Asma Mobin-Uddin, CAIR-Ohio president, and Abukar Arman, CAIR-OH board member – have recently recounted this incident to the local establishment media as an example of how they “invite dialogue”.

Others, however, believe the incident is additional proof that CAIR regularly resorts to threats, intimidation and demonization to silence its critics. Earlier this month, attorneys for CAIR sent a letter threatening legal action against the Young Americans Foundation if they allowed NY Times bestselling author and JihadWatch director, Robert Spencer, to speak at their conference on “The Truth of the Council on American-Islamic Relations”. FrontPage Magazine reminds us of the Academic Prohibition:

In today's America, you can burn our flag but you can not mistreat the Koran. Burning the flag is freedom of expression, a form of allowable speech our courts tell us, but mistreating the Koran is a criminal felony punishable under hate-crime legislation. If you are a Moslem you can, together with your brothers, wave posters at public protests on college campuses calling for "Killing the Jews", "Destroy Israel" and declare "Jews are Sons of Apes". This our college administrators tell us is "free speech". However, you have no right, even in private, to demean a book if it is the Koran. If you do, you go to jail. This is a form of expression unallowable -- perhaps America's only remaining prohibition.

There are a lot of articles out there - you can start by simply using Google News to search for CAIR hate speech, for instance - but the more you read, the more you see that CAIR wants their "rules" to apply to everyone BUT muslims.

A voice from the past

I cannot imagine how I missed this one - but since it's only been on YouTube for a month, I guess I can forgive myself. It's very, VERY well done:

I wish - oh, how I wish! - that America would rediscover her intestinal fortitude. If we had gone into this war with the same resolve and steely-eyed determination that we entered World War II, the insurgents would have been history by now.

All this PC crap just maddens me! America is the world's whipping boy, even after all the generous and open hearted things we've done to help others, rebuild countries, and assist in relieving disasters. We are always the first ones there, and the most willing to help. And what do we get for it? We're called "stingy," "the Great White Satan," and all sorts of pejorative things.

Well, if we would only strike hard and decisively when our country is attacked, if we would only follow through and exact justifiable retribution to the bitter end, then perhaps the world would stop whining about us and instead treat us with respect and a healthy tinge of nervousness. And I wouldn't mind if terrorists of all stripes had to give fifth or sixth thoughts to butchering our citizens, either.

Ah, I wish we had more Patton-esque personalities organizing and planning our strategies today!

What burns my gut is that we have so many of our elected officials and public figures making immoderate and ill-considered remarks like Congressman Ellison's of the other day. Whatever happened to sober, thoughtful and LOGICAL expressions of opinion?

It seems that in this day of the All Powerful Soundbite™, the more outrageous you are, the more likely you are to be quoted. The more you're quoted, the more publicity you get. *sigh*

God forbid we should have people in the public service who are humble and self-effacing - people who go into government at great personal cost to be a servant to the public, rather than puffing themselves up.

I'm not particularly fond of either of them...

But since Lindsey GrAmnesty (RINO - SC) is (IMHO) supporting the troops and their mission, I'm more inclined to think favorably of him because of this exchange. He says Iran is trying to destabilize the area and kill Americans - um, d'uh!

He's being asked how long the surge should last, and he reminds Tim Russert that the surge has only been going on for TWO WEEKS! Yes, we think it's been longer because of the troop deployments, but the full number of surge troops have only been in place for the past three weeks!

Can we, perhaps, give them three or four months before we start whining that the surge has "failed"? Why don't you go check out the sites Jack Holt mentioned on Saturday, and see first hand, primary source information, and then consider what's really going on.

As Sen. GrAmnesty says, "History will judge us not [for] when we left, but what we left behind. Do we leave a resurgent al-Qaeda that will kill every moderate that helped us? Do we empower Iran? Do they control the southern part of Iraq?"

Besides, Jim Webb: "Lindsey's having a bad day"? "Dog and pony show"?! Snark much, Sen. Webb?

 "The President said that by the end of this year all the provinces in Iraq would be under the control of the Iraqis. That's clearly not going to happen." (Oh, pessimistic, much?)

Anyway, watch for yourself...

Look, folks, I'm not saying that the Bush administration didn't screw things up in Iraq. But the Democrats were crying and whining for more troops, more troops, MORE TROOPS! for eons, and finally Bush conceded the point. Can't we now, as I said, allow these extra troops some time to do their jobs?!

Good grief, folks, Bush never said it would be a quick war. This is a war of worldviews - democracy and freedom vs. religious totalitarianism and intolerance - it isn't going to be solved in the next decade, much less the next year!

Islamic terrorism and totalitarianism is a fact - it won't go away. And I don't know about you, but I don't want my grandchildren to have the sole choices of being forced to bow before the Koran, live in servitude, or die by the sword.

We fight this NOW, away from our cities and homes, or we fight it on our own shores later.

Either way, that fight must be fought.

We're really too complacent, and don't treat the islamist terrorists as we should (I'm for hunting them down like the rabid dogs they are, but I realize that's a rather kind fate for them). MEMRI TV has a video clip (look for #1363, "Bahraini Liberal Author Dhiyaa Al-Musawi" [link is to transcript]) that is a must-see. Now, I don't know a whole lot about Mr. Al-Musawi, but he looks a lot like a "moderate Muslim."

Why haven't we heard more from Muslims like him?

You ought to read the transcript (or watch the video) for yourself, but let me give you some quotes:

Swear to tell the truth

... but on the Koran?!

I heard this on the radio this morning:

The ACLU filed the lawsuit in July 2005 in Superior Court in Wake County on behalf of the organization's statewide membership of approximately 8,000 individuals of many different faiths, including Islam and Judaism. In November 2005, the ACLU added another plaintiff to the case, Syidah Mateen, a Muslim woman who was denied the option of using the Quran when she was being sworn in as a witness in a court proceeding in Guilford County. She was told that the only holy text used in the courtroom is the King James Version of the Bible.

I cannot understand why this is a problem. Why should one swear to tell the "truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth" on a book which permits - nay, encourages! - its followers to lie?

At the moment, I can think of only one instance in the Bible where a lie is affirmed by God:

15 Then the king of Egypt spoke to the Hebrew midwives, of whom the name of one was Shiphrah and the name of the other Puah; 16 and he said, "When you do the duties of a midwife for the Hebrew women, and see them on the birthstools, if it is a son, then you shall kill him; but if it is a daughter, then she shall live." 17 But the midwives feared God, and did not do as the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the male children alive. 18 So the king of Egypt called for the midwives and said to them, "Why have you done this thing, and saved the male children alive?"

19 And the midwives said to Pharaoh, "Because the Hebrew women are not like the Egyptian women; for they are lively and give birth before the midwives come to them."

Everywhere else, the truth is held in high regard, and God's people are called to follow the Ninth Commandment diligently; after all, Jesus calls Himself the Truth, God is the God of Truth (see also here and here), and believers are called to

• buy truth
• rejoice in truth
• speak the truth
• meditate on the truth
• give truthful testimony
• sanctify themselves in truth
• obey the truth

... just to give a few examples.

However, the Koran and Islamic traditions allow and encourage deceit - and not to save lives, but to delude "infidels."

God - the real God, the Holy and Perfect God of creation - calls His children to live in peace and obey the laws of their land. His Word, the Bible, calls itself the Truth over and over again. Although swearing (or affirming) on the Bible will not necessarily make a liar tell the truth, there is an warning element of the righteous judgment awaiting you if you swear to tell the truth on the Book of Truth - and then lie.

I don't see the parallel in the Koran.

I posted "Islam's not for me!" yesterday, and today a friend of mine stopped by and asked if I really thought that I was free enough to have a choice. Here is what I replied:   

"Greater is He who is in you, than he who is in the world."   

I belong to the King of Kings, and the Lord of Lords, who will one day cast this satanic "god" into the eternal pit of fire - and he won't need to exert the least amount of effort to do so.   

My Lord and Savior is the Creator of all, the Lord God Almighty, the Lord my Provider, the Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End.   

Allah? ***pfft!*** A little Johnny-Come-Lately upstart with delusions of grandeur.

Well, I can certainly agree with Robert Spenser that there is plenty of immorality in the West, but I would direct Ayatollah Shirazi (quoted above) to note the immorality running rampant in the Islamic world: slavery, abuse of women, intolerance, genocide, suidical death cults... I much prefer the Christian worldview, frankly.

• 2 Cor 3:17 "Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty."
• Romans 12:18 "If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men."
• Matthew 5:9-12 "Blessed are the peacemakers, For they shall be called sons of God. Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you."

Christians - as directed by our authoritative scriptures - are called to sacrifice themselves to holiness and righteousness, not to murder and hate.

Jesus is a far better example to follow than Mohammed (the pedophile, the murderer, the liar).

Patterico and Stashiu talk about Gitmo

Patterico has scored a coup because of his honest and upfront blogging: one of his commenters, Stashiu3, served at Gitmo, and has agreed to tell his story.

The terrorists at Guantánamo knew the American by the name "Stashiu." Readers of this blog know him as "Stashiu3." Stashiu has been reading and commenting on this blog since July 2006, but only recently mentioned that he had been stationed in Guantánamo. When I read that, back on September 17, I immediately e-mailed Stashiu to ask him if he would be willing to speak with me on the record about Guantánamo, and let me publish the results of our conversation. He agreed, and this series of posts is the result.

Although I know Stashiu's real name, I am not going to publish it. Stashiu has received death threats from around a dozen Al Qaeda members. Some of the threats have been made in anger, some have been attempts to intimidate -- and some have been simple statements of intent . . . like the detainee who threatened to have Zarqawi cut off the heads of Stashiu and his family.

I am very much looking forward to this series of posts, and will be reading the comments of each carefully, as Stashiu will be doing his best to answer questions that Patterico's readers might have. There will, apparently, be five parts (e.g. four more posted over the next few days) to the interview.

Patterico has done his homework and verified Stashiu's identity, but is keeping it as private as he can to protect Stashiu and his family. He also stated that Stashiu has read each of the posts already to verify that Patterico is indeed posting what Stashiu is saying. As Patterico says in the update to this post:

A reader expresses concern that I have revealed too much regarding Stashiu's identity. This is an issue that he and I discussed extensively. I warned him that including certain details would probably reveal his identity to anyone with a basic knowledge of Google. Stashiu allowed me to retain those details, reasoning that anyone determined enough to find him probably could anyway. I am allowing him to review the posts before publication for the sake of accuracy, so he knows exactly what I am saying about him.

Iraq the Model makes the point

Are those who demand an apology from the pope ready to apologize for some of their own mistakes? Or have they never made any mistakes?

Regardless of what the pope said, the Arab and Muslim world, through the tense and offensive reactions, showed once again how incapable its leaders are to respond to criticism in a civilized way.

Here we always insist that the greatest miracle of the prophet is the words he was sent with, the same words that tell Muslims to use logic and kindness in their attempts to invite others to the Islamic faith, the same words that discourage them from using a rude or repulsive tone in their conversations.

The sad thing is that in spite of all these advices, most of the common people and the elites choose offensive, rude if not violent reactions as a first measure to counter criticism.

One friend reminded me of the assassination attempt that targeted the former pope two decades ago wondering what the reaction of the pope was…as we all know he eventually visited the assailant and pardoned him.

No mosques were blown up and no speech of a clash of civilizations was made.

So why don't we admit that the "other" is better than us at responding rationally when criticized? Why don't we learn from others?

When we closed our ears to anything that doesn't match our beliefs and refused all criticism wasn't that enough reason for the deterioration of our civilization?

Meek, a self-proclaimed Muslim for the past 16 years, said his interest in Islam began when he was studying to become a Baptist preacher. He said he began wondering if Muslims were "confused Christians" or whether Christians were the ones who were confused. Meek said he was unsure of how to confirm his beliefs. "I started from the prospective that I wanted to study the Bible to convince people that it's true," he said.

As he started studying the history of the text, he said he began doubting the truth of the Bible. Meek said he compared the two religions and decided on Islam. "It's more compelling, more attractive to me," he said.

And, of course, we ALL want to assess everything on how "compelling and attractive" they are, vs. how closely it conforms to the truth. Yeah. That's the ticket.

Oh, and notice how all those crazy Christians are storming CAIR, threatening to behead... um... No, wait...

I've got something for Mr. Meek: mohammed has already acknowledged the reality that Christ is the Son of God, the King of Kings and Lord of Lords... and that mohammed was nothing but a delusional liar, devoted to a religion of violence, hatred, bloodshed, and satanic deception.
